Phulchowki, meaning “Hill of Flowers,” stands at 2,782 meters and is the tallest hill encircling Kathmandu Valley, located in the southern part near Godawari. This trail is a favorite among nature lovers, birdwatchers, and hikers seeking a peaceful escape close to the capital.
The hike typically begins with a short drive to Godawari (about 14 km from Kathmandu), the starting point of the trail. From there, hikers ascend gradually through dense sub-tropical forests rich with rhododendrons, oak, and pine trees, as well as a remarkable diversity of orchids, butterflies, and bird species — making it a paradise for naturalists and photographers alike.
The total hike takes around 6.5 to 7 hours (round trip), depending on pace and rest stops. As you climb higher, the trail offers refreshing tranquility and glimpses of the Kathmandu Valley below.
